Succulent & Herb Bar - Celebrating Mother’s Day at the Nursery
I know it is June and Father’s Day is around the corner. It’s just that with so many events went on in May, I am behind in writing these blogs. Excuses, yes. So let me just continue on to the good bit - sharing you a fun day at the Glendora Gardens nursery on Mother’s Day weekend :)
Melina, one of the owner of Glendora Gardens, was telling me about the exciting weekend event coming up for Mother’s Day - balloons arrangement, photo booth, free cupcakes by Dot’s Pasadena - when just like that, I had this thought about doing on the spot custom arrangement succulents and herbs for people who come to the nursery looking for gifts. We both thought it was just brilliant: SUCCULENT & HERB BAR.
She came up with that catchy name, because I suck at naming things.
With not a lot of time to prepare, I laid out my plan to her within the next couple of days. Just so happen, I already have the planters (which were ordered for an event that got cancelled - is that a coincidence or what??).
What’s left is creating the game plan for the event, pulling varieties of succulents and herbs for the bar, and enlisting my dear #husbandtokeep to assist me.
Finally the weekend arrived. The day started gray and a bit drizzly, but it turned out to be a beautiful sunny day. The bar was set and ready, and within the first hour I had three orders lining up!
The way the bar works is this: You choose the succulents for the arrangement. That’s what make each of them different. Then choose the decorations for your arrangement. Finally, choose the garden sign to write a special message to go with the arrangement.
I will guide you through the selection process, of course, and this is what I would tell you:
“Choose your Queen, then two Princesses, and three attendants.”
From the selected succulents, I completed the arrangement with fillers as needed and top dressing.
The herb arrangement is much simpler but still customizable. There is enough space for 3-4 herbs and edible flowers. You could choose different ones for all of them. My suggestion is to choose at least one edible flowers in the arrangement. The rest, choose herbs that commonly used in the type of cooking Mom does.
At the end of the day I finished 25 unique arrangements. Not going to lie, I was dead tired. But seeing people’s faces lit up when they see the final product of their selection, totally worth it.
The event was a success that we plan to do something similar at the end of the year. Say, Thanksgiving. So stay tuned. Follow me on Facebook or Instagram for event updates. Or send me an email kat@blissfulgrowing.com to be added to event notification emails. Not to worry, I don’t send email that often. Only for upcoming events. And, I don’t sell or giveaway your information.
More photos of the events are posted on Blissful Growing Garden Party group page on Facebook.
